Schütz Plant in Moerdijk officially opened: Guests showed great interest in full service packaging |

Selters / Moerdijk. At a grand ceremony on 26 September 2008, Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA of Selters, Germany, officially opened its new production site in Moerdijk, the Netherlands. Some 500 guests along with representatives of the international trade press attended the opening of the plant, in which a workforce of approximately 120 employees will manufacture the entire product range of the Schütz Industrial Packaging division, which includes intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) as well as PE and steel drums, and operate one of the most up-to-date units for the reconditioning of transport packaging. |
Most of the invited guests were especially interested in a new service offerred from Moerdijk known as Full Service Packaging. This unique service will take care of all logistical, organisational and administrative tasks related to the filling of the customers’ products as well as the handling and logistics of industrial packaging.
Covering a total area of 95,000 m2, the new facility is ideally placed both strategically and logistically, in a location between Antwerp and Rotterdam, where it has easy access to the major road, water and rail networks. But that's not all - some three decades after Schütz invented an entirely new segment in the industrial transport packaging market with its IBC, we are proud to introduce this exciting new service concept in Moerdijk. “With our Full Service Packaging and the central toll-filling aspect, we have taken another important step in our corporate development. “The new offering at our Moerdijk site completes our already extensive range of services to make us a true full service provider,” as Schütz CEO Roland Strassburger explained in his opening speech.
Market developments and changing customer demands are the reasons why Schütz has successively added increasingly extensive services to its product portfolio. These will now be fully integrated at Moerdijk. “Full Service Packaging was developed in line with our corporate policy of maintaining a focus on market needs and results in a shortening and simplification of the supply chain. This allows our customers to concentrate more than before on their core business,” Mr Strassburger continued.
The core competencies that have evolved over decades within the company have now been brought together in an innovative and comprehensive service offering at the new site, which has easy access to major industrial ports. This all-inclusive package covers all services from production of the packaging, filling, packaging and chemical and logistical management all the way through to reconditioning. The result: the supply chain is reduced to essentials. At the same time, costs are cut and, above all, pollution is greatly reduced, which is good news for the environment. A glance at the range of services reveals the many benefits of the new offering:
“In our opinion, the new offering is an interesting proposition both for the regional market and for export and import services,” says Veit Enders, Schütz’ Sales and Marketing Manager, Europe, referring to the international significance of the company’s new Dutch facility for international business.
The official part of the opening ceremony in Moerdijk was hosted by Dutch TV presenter Paula Patricio, who welcomed Udo Uiterwijk as one of the speakers. Representing the port authorities, he congratulated Schütz on setting up the new plant in the important production and commercial centre of Moerdijk. Regional politicians and representatives of the local administration also joined him in wishing Schütz all the best for the future at the site.
At the end of the opening ceremony, which took place in the morning, the guests had the opportunity to make an extensive tour of the plant. Like their visitors, the Schütz directors were very pleased with the success of the event and made the most of the opportunity for in-depth conversations and discussions well into the afternoon.
